Today, I’m sharing my easy, foolproof recipe so you can make them at home, sweet or slightly fancy with cardamom
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1/4 cup sugar (or jaggery powder for a healthier twist)
- 2 tbsp milk
- A pinch of cardamom powder (for that heavenly aroma)
- Oil for deep frying
Optional Twists:
- Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra crunch
- Shape them into diamonds, squares, or fun little stars
How to Make Sweet Shankarpali
- Mix & Knead: In a bowl, mix flour and ghee like you’re giving the flour a little spa day. Add sugar and milk, then knead into a smooth, soft dough.
- Roll It Out: Lightly dust your counter with flour. Roll the dough thin, but not paper-thin—just enough to get that perfect crunch.
- Cut Shapes: Slice into diamonds, squares, or any fun shapes your heart desires
- Fry to Golden Perfection: Heat oil in a pan or deep fryer. Fry in batches on medium flame until golden and crispy. Take your time; good things take patience!
- Cool Completely: Let them cool on kitchen tissue. Warm Shankarpali in an airtight container = soggy snack disaster.
Storage Tips & Smart Tip
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay crispy for 2–3 weeks.
- Avoid the fridge—moisture is the enemy here
Smart Tip: Want to be sure your Shankarpali stays fresh for exactly the right amount of time? I always check with this handy Shelf Life Calculator. Just plug in your snack and storage details, and it tells you how long it will last. Super helpful if you’re making big batches for festivals or gifts
Extra Fun Ideas:
- Sprinkle chili powder lightly on sweet Shankarpali for a surprising kick
- Mix in roasted nuts for that extra crunch and flavor
- Pair with Masala Chai—you’re welcome.
If you loved my Spicy Namkin Para, this sweet Shankarpali is the perfect follow-up. Both are crunchy, addictive, and perfect for tea-time or gifting to friends and family.
There you go! Your snack jar just got an upgrade. Make a batch, enjoy a cup of chai, and let those golden, crispy diamonds bring happiness to your day.
